| MARKETING AND SALES MANAGER OF EDUCATION & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
STATUS: Part-time (20 hours/week)
REPORTS TO: Vice President of Education & Community Engagement
COLLABORATES CLOSELY WITH: Marketing & External Affairs Staff

SUMMARY
The Marketing and Sales Manager of Education & Community Engagement implements grassroots campaigns per the marketing and sales plans for two core NJSO programs: the REACH chamber music program and the Family concert series. The Marketing and Sales Manager is the primary “in-the-field” promotion and sales person for the REACH program and Family concert series with a focus on initiating and cultivating community partnerships with schools, libraries, corporations, small businesses, municipal government agencies and nonprofit organizations statewide.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Implement grassroots marketing campaigns to drive the sales of NJSO's chamber music programs and Family series.
- Solicit partnerships with key community partners in order to increase chamber music program and Family concert ticket sales. Seek opportunities to promote these offerings at a grass-roots level.
- Travel locally to distribute marketing materials for the chamber music program and Family series.
- Assist with writing and preparing copy for print materials as well as direct mail pieces and online campaigns.
- Work with Art Director to develop flyers and other print materials in support of marketing strategies.
- Contribute to the development of program marketing and sales strategies to meet fiscal year targets.
- Serve as Education & Community Engagement department representative at select NJSO concerts and chamber music events.
- Attend and actively participate in weekly team meetings.
- Perform various administrative tasks, such as data entry, file maintenance, written and phone correspondence.
- Perform related additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in marketing, music, communications or business, and a minimum of two years of related experience. Equivalent combination of education/training and experience also acceptable. Must show results produced in marketing and sales.

- Prior experience with both traditional and grassroots marketing methods

- Knowledge of classical music and a sincere desire to make it accessible to new and diverse audiences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to flex public presentation style to reach different constituents through different mediums
- Excellent copywriting/proofreading skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate win-win partnerships
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to think creatively about marketing and sales, turn problems into opportunities and interact positively with others in a team-oriented environment
- Excellent organizational skills
- Must have working knowledge of standard Microsoft Office applications; prefer experience with client relationship management databases as well

Marketing and sales savvy is necessary. Ability to succeed in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment where proficiency in meeting income goals is essential.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee may be required to perform the essential functions of the job during evening or weekend hours. Valid driver’s license and access to an automobile is necessary for extensive NJ travel.

SOCIAL MEDIA & MARKETING INTERN
SUMMARY
If you are familiar with Facebook and Twitter and want to gain practical experience with social media, the Marketing Department of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra has a job for you! We are seeking a highly motivated intern to lend support to the Marketing Department in the areas of Social Media, Subscriptions, Single Tickets and Group Sales. Duties include monitoring our social media presence, content research and content creation. The intern may also help with development of the social media plan and editorial calendar, and other duties as assigned.
Intern will participate in marketing the NJSO's student tickets program and a variety of other marketing campaigns and promotions. The intern may be required to perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, perform basic analytical tasks and participate in grass roots marketing efforts. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
• Pursuing or completed a degree in Marketing, Arts Administration or an equivalent degree and/or experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Excellent analytical ability.
• Excellent writing and proofreading skills.

The Education & Community Engagement Department of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra seeks a highly motivated intern to lend support to all the educational programs of the department, including a chamber music program, a youth orchestra program, concerts for school children and families, and a host of community projects.
The intern may be required to perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry, phone correspondence, mailings and music library organization. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
• Pursuing or completed a bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Arts Administration or an equivalent degree and/or experience.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong writing and proofreading skills.

SPRING DEVELOPMENT INTERN
Reports to: Director of Development
SUMMARY
The Development Department of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra seeks a highly motivated intern to lend support to the Development Department in all areas of development, including donor relations, fundraising, database management and donor events. Intern will participate in preparing and maintaining the department’s donor relations and information management systems, and participate in weekly development meetings. The intern may be required to perform basic administrative tasks such as data entry using a high-end fundraising software and file management. Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to interact positively with others in a team-oriented environment.

SPRING COMMUNICATIONS & EXTERNAL AFFAIRS INTERN
Reports to: Communications and External Affairs Manager
SUMMARY
The New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s Department of Communications & External Affairs has an opening for an intern during the spring of 2012. The intern will report to the Communications & External Affairs Manager and will assume various responsibilities while working on special projects for the department.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
• researching media outlets—both statewide and national—to assess value to the NJSO and helping to initiate
contact with potential reviewers, features writers and editors
• submitting NJSO events for the 2010–11 season to online calendar listings and other arts calendars
• examining past press coverage of the NJSO and creating filing system for hard copies of articles
• implementing new system for storing and identifying photos from NJSO events and concerts
• copyediting press releases, artist bios and other documents
• generating copy—short feature stories and news blurbs—for weekly one-page internal newsletter
• improving internal access to important information and photos by examining the office's shared network drive
and consolidating and simplifying shared folders
• exploring new media—eg. Internet, social media—possibilities and capabilities
• completing other projects as assigned
