David Fein

DAVID FEIN has been the NJSO’s Principal Percussionist since 1979 although he first performed with the
Orchestra in 1974 while a student at The Juilliard School. Mr. Fein has been on the faculty of the Juilliard
School Pre-College Division since 1973. His teachers include Saul Goodman, Morris Goldenberg, Buster
Bailey, Cloyd Duff, Gerald Carlyss, and Vic Firth. He previously was the timpanist of the Grand Teton Music
Festival, New Haven Symphony (where he was also the conducting assistant), the Northeast Pennsylvania
Philharmonic and the Queens Symphony, where Mr. Fein premiered the Jolivet Percussion Concerto. He is
the first percussionist to be awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Juilliard School.
The father of a teenage daughter and 10 year old son, David lives in Manhattan with his wife Lauren. |
